Saharna is a very small village, located on the Dniester river, being half of millennium old (first research was made on January 24, 1495). It spread over the hills becoming the New Saharna. But the history of Saharna is much older. It is one of the oldest monasteries in the Republic of Moldova and is open only on certain days. The legend says that in this very place one of the monks saw the God's Mother on one of the rocks, and even more - they found the footprint on a rock. This shows that these places are holy
The natural surroundings are too beautiful to be described. Saharna river is 16 m deep and 200 m high. The water flows in every 30 steps in cascades. The biggest cascade is the "Hole of a Gypsy", having 8 meters high. There are trees all over, more than 1000 kinds of plants can be found - Saharna is a small natural reservation under the protection of the government.
